About Us
Independent Tools. No Sales Agenda.
SolarCalcUSA exists because most "solar calculators" online are lead generation forms designed to sell your contact information to installers. We built something different.
What We Are
SolarCalcUSA is an independent clean energy information website built for US homeowners who are considering solar panels, home battery storage, or electric vehicles. We provide free calculators and educational guides to help you understand whether clean energy makes financial sense for your specific home — before you talk to any installer or salesperson.
We are not affiliated with any solar installer, battery manufacturer, utility company, or EV brand. Our calculators use publicly available data — local electricity rates, NREL sun hour data, and current incentive information — to give you realistic estimates rather than optimistic sales pitches.
Why We Built This
The solar industry has a lead generation problem. The majority of "free solar calculators" you find online exist for one purpose: capturing your email address and phone number to sell to installers. The "estimate" is secondary — the lead is the product.
We built SolarCalcUSA as a genuinely useful tool. You can calculate your solar savings, size a battery system, and compare EV fuel costs without giving us your contact information. No signup. No sales calls. No sponsored results pushing you toward specific installers.
Our goal is simple: give you the information you need to make an informed decision about clean energy for your home.
How Our Calculators Work
☀ Solar Calculator
Estimates system size from your monthly electricity bill and location. Uses state-level electricity rates and NREL peak sun hour data by region. Payback period based on installed cost averages and annual savings projection.
🔋 Battery Calculator
Sizes battery storage based on your daily energy usage goals. Recommends capacity for nighttime coverage, backup power, or whole-home off-grid capability based on typical household consumption patterns.
⚡ EV Calculator
Compares annual fuel costs between your current gas vehicle and an equivalent EV based on your driving habits, local electricity rates, and current gas prices. Accounts for efficiency differences between vehicle types.
All calculator estimates are approximations. Actual savings depend on your specific roof, shading, utility rate structure, driving habits, and installer pricing. Always obtain multiple professional quotes before making a purchasing decision.
Our Data Sources
- Electricity rates: U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) state-level retail electricity price data
- Sun hours: National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) solar resource data
- Incentives: DSIRE (Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency), updated regularly
- Installation costs: SEIA (Solar Energy Industries Association) national and regional cost benchmarks
- EV data: U.S. Department of Energy Alternative Fuels Data Center, FuelEconomy.gov
Data is reviewed and updated regularly.
